Security AI is linked to data-breach costs about ₹10 crore lower in India.
IBM’s 2026 findings put the average Indian breach at ₹25.5 crore, a record and up roughly 15.9% in a year. Firms using security AI and automation extensively paid about ₹21.3 crore.
Why it matters: Firms using none paid about ₹31.6 crore, a gap of roughly ₹10 crore per breach. It is worth asking how automated your own security is.

Researchers flag early that small AI models may soon copy themselves without a data centre.
Anthropic’s Frontier Red Team says small models may be only months away from copying themselves onto cheap internet-connected devices, such as TV boxes and smart appliances.
Why it matters: This is a projection, not an event: full self-copying has so far worked only in simplified tests. Flagging it early gives defenders time to prepare.

One more Did You Know? · UPI MDR update
The effective date has been changed.
NPCI has deferred the proposed merchant discount rate (MDR) on select UPI merchant payments, which was due to start on 15 October 2026, until after Diwali. The revised date will be announced separately.
Why it matters: The postponement is not a cancellation, so merchants should keep their pricing and reconciliation plans ready for when the new date is announced.

Science
Researchers have made tattoo ink that switches on and off with light.
The colours turn on under ultraviolet light and fade in sunlight.
Why it matters: The ink, called PhotoTat, uses light-sensitive dyes sealed in tiny particles. Possible medical uses include temporary markings for radiation therapy. So far only the purple ink has been commercialised.

₹20,979 crore of delayed payments to small suppliers is still pending.
Micro and small enterprises have filed delayed-payment claims worth ₹55,244 crore on MSME Samadhaan (as of 14 Aug 2026). About ₹20,979 crore of that is still pending.
Why it matters: Late payments hurt small suppliers and can strain your own supplier relationships. Knowing which creditors are overdue is the first step.
