Day 3 of 7

Generative AI and Chatbots

Today you can:
  • Explain what generative AI and a chatbot are
  • Understand why chatbots can sound right and be wrong
  • Write a clear prompt

A chatbot predicts likely words. It does not check facts.

Prompt recipe

  1. Whoyou are
  2. Whatyou need
  3. For whomthe reader
  4. Shapebullets, table…

A made-up answer that sounds sure is called a hallucination.

Key words

Generative AI: AI that creates new text, images or audio
Chatbot: a program you converse with
Prompt: your instruction to the AI

Seen in India

A customer-help chatbot on a shopping or bank app answers common questions at any hour.
A student asks a chatbot to explain photosynthesis in simple words, then checks it against the textbook.

Guided activity: Build a clear prompt

Choose from each list. The tool joins them into a prompt you could paste into any chatbot.

Notice the last sentence. Asking the AI to say when it is unsure does not make it always right, but it helps.

Quick quiz

1. What is a prompt?

A prompt is what you ask or tell the AI to do.

2. Why can a chatbot give a wrong answer that sounds confident?

It generates likely text. It does not verify truth.

3. Which prompt will usually work best?

Context, audience and shape make a prompt clearer.
