Interview preparation checklist

Tick each item as you prepare. Ticks are not saved on this page, so print it or take a screenshot if you want to keep your progress.

1. Resume

2. Portfolio of practice work

3. Explaining my projects

For each project, be ready to say in about one minute:

  1. The problem: what was wrong or needed?
  2. What I did: the steps I took, and who I would have spoken to.
  3. What I produced: a flowchart, requirements, stories, tests.
  4. What I learned: one thing I would do differently.

Be honest that these are practice projects. Employers value clear thinking and honesty more than exaggeration.

4. Common interview questions to practise

  • Tell me about yourself.
  • What does a Business Analyst do?
  • How would you find out what a user really needs?
  • What is the difference between a functional and a non-functional requirement?
  • What is a user story? Can you give an example?
  • How would you handle two stakeholders who want different things?
  • What would you do if a requirement is unclear?
  • Tell me about a time you solved a problem or organised something.
  • Why do you want this role, and why now?
  • Can you tell me about the gap in your resume? (You choose how much to share. A short, calm, factual answer is enough.)

5. Remote-work readiness and professional boundaries

6. Staying safe while job hunting
