Computer and internet basics
Folders, files, browsers and keeping things tidy.
Key ideas
- Files and folders. A file is one document or picture. A folder holds files. Give files clear names, for example Resume_Anita_2026.pdf instead of New document 7.
- Save and find. Always note where you saved a file. Create one folder for your learning work and sub-folders for each topic.
- Browser. A browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari) opens websites. Use the address bar to type a website address, and the tabs to keep several pages open.
- Search well. Use a few clear words. Add a year when you want recent information. Prefer official websites and well-known organisations.
- Download and upload. Downloading saves a file to your device. Uploading sends a file to a website, for example to attach a resume.
- Keep a copy. Keep important files in two places, for example on your device and in a cloud drive you trust.
Try it
- Create a folder named Udaan-Learning with three sub-folders.
- Save any lesson from this site as a PDF (use the Print button, then choose “Save as PDF”) into it.
- Search for “Income Tax Department India” and decide which result is the official site, and why.
Check yourself
1. What is a good file name?
A clear name tells you what is inside and when it was made.
2. Which website is most likely to be official for a government department?
Prefer the department's own website.
